Maricopa Partnership for Arts and Culture (MPAC) was founded in July 2004 at the recommendation of the Maricopa Regional Arts and Culture Task Force. Its mission is to develop and implement entrepreneurial partnerships that advance arts and culture as a critical component of the region's economic prosperity, distinctiveness and vibrancy.

Four core strategies serve as its guiding blueprint:

  • Integrate arts and culture into current economic development planning and priorities.
  • Enhance participation in arts and culture activities for everyone in the region.
  • Build regional distinction by promoting signature events and unique arts and culture experiences.
  • Integrate arts and culture experiences in the education and lives of young people.

MPAC is grateful to have received seed funding from the Flinn Foundation and The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust that will be used to launch new programs and initiatives, strengthen existing regional efforts, and leverage funding partnerships to advance arts and culture in collaboration with the regions public and private sectors.

In support of these efforts, MPAC funds research to raise awareness and advance knowledge of the vital role arts and culture plays in Greater Phoenixs economic prosperity, distinctiveness and vibrancy. Past and current research efforts include subject matter such as the economic impact of the creative sector; the competitiveness of the regions arts and culture sector against other cities; audience trends and behaviors; and perceptions both in-area and nationally of quality of life offerings in the Greater Phoenix area.

A parallel organization, the Maricopa Campaign for Arts and Culture (MCAC), a 501c(4) organization, was also created concurrently with MPAC to carry forward a fifth strategy to address the undercapitalization of non-profit arts and cultural organizations by identifying and procuring a dedicated public funding stream that will generate between $40 - $50 million on an annual basis.
