Scottsdale Cultural Council Appoints New Leader

The Scottsdale Cultural Council has named Dr. William H. Banchs as its new president and chief executive officer. Dr. Banchs served as president of the Miami-based National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) for the past 16 years. He will begin with the Scottsdale Cultural Council in January. Interim CEO Shelley Cohn will continue in her current position to facilitate the leadership transition. Dr. Banchs has extensive experience in nonprofit administration and fundraising as well as a lifelong commitment to the arts, particularly music education. He joined the NFAA in 1986 as director of program development and served in a number of key positions before assuming the presidency in 1991. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Banchs was educated at Harvard University, where he earned a B.A. in chemistry and physics and his M.A. and Ph.D. in music composition and theory. An accomplished composer, he has received numerous awards, grants and commissions.
Eight/KAET-TV Wins Emmy Award for BUZZ

BUZZ, a profile of Arizona’s vibrant and emerging arts scene, has been awarded an Emmy by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the Arts/Entertainment Program Special category (Beth Vershure, Suzanne Guery, Benjamin Pierce, Jen Burke). Buzz was also nominated for an Emmy for Magazine Program Feature Segment. Eight, a part of Arizona State University, received 13 nominations.

Eight/KAET-TV is also pleased to announce that Buzz has won the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award. CINE is a national competition that celebrates excellence in film, video and media arts. The Golden Eagle awards are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in filmmaking and videography.

The Citizen Artist-Rights & Responsibilities, covering basic contracts and intellectual property and Artist as Activist and Advocate and more. Monday, September 24, 2007, 1:00-4:30pm
